Napa Valley Cricket Club triumph over local rivals Marin on rain soaked pitch in opening game of the 2016 season

The Napa Valley Cricket Club (NVCC) opened their season of regular games with a hard fought win over local rivals Marin Socials at Piper Park last Saturday. While the late spring rains were welcomed by all off the field of play they ensured a low scoring encounter at a ground where runs normally flow freely. The soggy conditions allied with the laying of a new mat meant that the toss was going to be very important to win and visiting NVCC captain Bernie Peacock called wrong and Marin chose to bowl first.

Napa Valley CC reverse losing streak against Marin CC with convincing win

NVCC opening batsmen and fellow New Zealanders Martin Mackenzie (L) and Jeff KeeneThe Napa Valley Cricket Club (NVCC) turned around a three game losing streak in their second game of 2015 against local rivals Marin CC in Calistoga recently.  A pair of centuries from batsmen Martin Mackenzie (102 not out retired) and John Leake (133 not out retired) set the NVCC up for a big score of 297 in their 35 overs which ultimately proved to much for Marin to chase.
